NEXT CONCERT
Schubert Mass in G
One of Adelaide’s favourite choirs, Cantabile Singers, is performing the ever-popular Schubert Mass in G. The one-hour twilight concert will also feature short works by Mozart, Faure and Bruckner.

The mass will be performed by the choir, with piano accompaniment and will be joined by three soloists from Adelaide Chamber Singers, named The Best Choir in the World on several occasions. The soloists are soprano Alexandra Bollard, tenor Kit Tonkin and bass Christopher Gann. They will also be singing some Schubert Lieder.
Mass in G was written in six days in 1815 when the composer was only 18 and working full time as a school teacher. His incredible creative output in this productive year included his second and third symphonies, two Masses, a string quartet, two piano sonatas and 145 songs, among other works.

The Mass was only published in 1846 long after his death. It is the best known of Schubert’s shorter mass compositions, and has been called ‘an astonishingly great work’ and ‘the gentlest of masses’ as well as featuring ‘charming song-like melodic writing’.
