Joining Cantabile Singers

Cantabile Scholarships

The Constitution of the Cantabile Singers provides for a scholarship scheme to encourage young singers to join our choir and experience both solo and ensemble performance. The scheme is possible only through the generous support and goodwill of choristers, friends and sponsors. The Director of Music, in consultation with the Board is responsible for auditioning potential scholars and recommending the granting of scholarships.

Become a choir member

Admission to Cantabile as a chorister is at the discretion of the Director of Music in consultation with the Board. The selection process is chiefly by audition at which at which the applicant must show a demonstrated ability to:

  • to read a music score

  • blend with existing voice in the particular section (soprano, alto, tenor, bass).

Other considerations include whether or not there is an existing vacancy within a particular section, a willingness to abide by uniform requirements and other rules and expectations set out in the handbook or as advised from time to time. There is special need for more tenors and basses in 2009. See the Link:- Seeking Basses and Tenors.

In accordance with the Constitution and in consultation with the Board, the Director will undertake auditions of all members from time to time and undertake voice blending and positioning.

Membership Fees

Choristers, other than young student singers who have been granted a music scholarship by the Board, must pay an annual subscription which is due by March 1 each year. The subscription for 2008 is $160.00. Talented young singers with choral musical training are especially welcome to contact the choir for a try-out and an audition. In some instances a full or partial choral scholarship may be extended to talented young singers other than music students after an audition with the Musical Director.
