History of Cantabile Singers

Murray Park Singers 1978-1992

Cantabile was founded in May 1978 as the Murray Park Singers originally comprising a small group of eight choristers based at the Murray Park Community Centre within what was then known as the Murray Park College of Advanced Education. The choir flourished under its foundation Director, Cathy Weber to reach almost 70 choristers in the early 1990’s. Its achievements have included participation in the Adelaide Festival Chorus, singing before Pope John Paul in 1986 and touring New Zealand in 1990.

Cantabile Singers 1992-2009

The transition of the Murray Park Community College into the Magill Campus of the University of South Australia required a review of the long-standing association between the Murray Park Singers and the University. In 1992, the Murray Park Singers became the Cantabile Singers – an independently incorporated choir with its own management committee and choral direction. The choir also relocated to the St Georges Anglican Church Hall on the eastern side of St Bernard’s Road, still very close to its original location within the Campus grounds.

 The Cantabile Singers currently (September 2009) has forty nine members comprising:
